Following on from their one-off charity event in Dalston last June, Max (front of house at Noble Rot), Felix (St. John) and their charismatic frontman Niall are in residence at Great Guns Social (south of the river’s answer to Carousel) throughout November and December. If you want to be one of the first to try original dishes (and some St. John faves) from a seriously promising young chef, book in here.
On our visit we had a five course tasting menu. We started off with focaccia and whipped iberico fat, crispy tripe with radicchio and bagna cauda foam, cider braised octopus, and turbot with broccoli and pangrattato. Dessert was a twofold: pineapple, basil and red peppercorns – one of Panhandle’s signature dishes – and then salted chocolate and caramel tart.
It’s a testament to the strength of the cooking here that we were even up for trying tripe – and guess what? It was delicious. Turns out it’s best when deep fried and covered in dehydrated raspberries. If you like staying ahead of the game in terms of promising culinary talent, trust us: you’ll want to try out this residency.
