Walk through the door of Perilla and you’ll get the sense that it’s contemporary and minimal, without being uninviting and cold. The atmosphere is almost always buzzing, and although the decor is all sleek wood, hard floors and huge windows, it still feels intimate and neighborhood-y. We recommend taking a seat up at the bar first (if you can), for one of their amazing (and lethal) mezcal margaritas, one of the best we’ve had in the city.
The menu changes seasonally, and often daily, as this is a restaurant that works with what mother nature offers – but the seaweed bread is a moreish staple that should be ordered whatever you’re having. Pick two or three dishes from innovative, Modern European plates, or opt for the all-too-reasonable tasting menu at £38 per head. As for the wine, they know their stuff here, so either opt for the pairing, or ask what’s recommended, you won’t be disappointed. And the best news? You can book.
