The MAINE Mayfair

A glitzy three-floor seafood affair

Details

More info

By now, if you live in London, you’ve likely heard about The MAINE Mayfair; this was arguably the biggest, most anticipated launch of 2021, and that’s saying something. Brought to London via Dubai by Canadian entrepreneur Joey Ghazal, this all-singing, all-dancing three-floor affair is right off Mayfair’s Hanover Square (a stone’s throw from Vogue House), and offers everything from oyster nights to live shows and a disco.

The Décor/Vibe
Set in a Georgian townhouse, there really is something for everyone here. A tavern for oyster shuck nights; a brasserie that’s perfect for lunches; a terrace for sunny days; and a subterranean club for a fun night out with live music and Champagne. The chandeliers are XXL, the tables are marble, the lighting is low, and the staff are white tuxedo jacket-clad; this feels like a step back in time.

The Menu
If you’re familiar with North American menus, you will be well versed with this one. There’s a little bit of everything – tacos and pastas, oysters and steaks (with a choice of sauces and butters), with extensive sides. But it’s the seafood that really stands out. From the raw bar, classic and a Poseidon Tower (lobster can be added), oysters and scallops, ceviches and tartares, lobster, whole sea bass, Dover sole meunière, cedar plank salmon, moules frites and prawns a la plancha.

Drinks
The cocktails are good; the wine list is extensive. Do ask the sommelier for help, they have some interesting, lesser-known Champagnes so you can go off piste.

Highlights
Dinner and a show: the crooner is good! Ask for a table close to the stage. The staff are extremely attentive and slick, and the secret disco is worth finding.
