Dandelyan
For some of the best cocktails, low boozers and mocktails in London, it has to be Dandelyan at the Mondrian Hotel, with Ryan Chetiyawardana in charge of the botanical menu. Inspired by the great botanists, fruit Hunters and bon Vivants who would bring back new tastes from foreign lands. Mr Lyan and the Dandelyan team research how plants grow, reproduce and defend themselves in an attempt to extract these qualities – a ‘nose to tail’ approach to flora.
45 Jermyn St.
The look at 45 Jermyn St. is old-school suave and the menu ranges from breakfast to late night supper. The wine list is superior and boasts 230 choices and the cocktails seem fun, with carbonated Rickies and ice cream floats. As for the caviar trolley, choose from Iranian beluga 000, golden oscietra and Siberian sturgeon – all from £2 per gram. Decisions, decisions.
Hawksmoor Air Street
If you’re looking for the lighter side of eating out, Hawksmoor Air Street’s latest bar menu could be just the tonic. The menu offers bar classics – pickled cockles, soused pilchards, fried Queenie (small scallops) and a Brixham crab sandwich – as well as a selection of oysters: Cornish rock, Colchester natives (both served with sausages) and fried rock with tartar sauce. As for the cocktails? UJ loves the Marmalade cocktail, Bloody Marys and the low booze ‘bridging’ menu, which includes fun sherry cocktails and fruit cups.
The Remedy
The Remedy have always been a fave for their wines with a natural, European focus in the heart of Fitzrovia and now they’ve introduced a killer vermouth menu. Pull up a stool and make your way through the eight new cocktails, made from a selection of over 25 vermouths.
