Top 5: Restaurants to You

Deliveries are not just for lockdown. Here are 5 to try:

    The Barbary Next Door

    Holiday in a bag

As this is from The Barbary, the menu here takes you from Moorish Spain to North Africa and then the Middle East. Beautifully presented in a keepsake bag, this ‘finish at home’ kit was an easy one to assemble, which was appreciated. To start, order a selection of things to snack on: pita crisps with a selection of dips (including labneh and hummus), challah with harissa and savoury Balkan bourekas. For mains it was aubergine chimichurri and feta, and Ethiopian fish curry. For dinner, order a hashpot (so so so so good – pistachio crème), or their tahini cake (almond and cashew biscuit with dark chocolate and tahini). Evelyn’s Table – The Barbary’s sibling – also has their own beer available here, and you can order cupboard essentials like sumac and za’atar too.

  • Bancone

    Pasta!

This is another easy to assemble one. We say start with a plate of salumi and a burrata and beetroot salad with kale and chive oil. Then move on to some classics like bucatini cacio e pepe and spicy pork and n’duja ragu with mafalde. For dessert it’s coconut pannacotta with passionfruit and cherry crisp.

  • Bisushima

    Sushi party

We started this one with a magic potion – a Rusty Nail – and it was great to try a new cocktail, especially one made with Suntory Toki Whisky. Here they have, interestingly, a lot of trout. Try the trout and ikura donburi (which comes with a lot of fish roe), or the trout carpaccio with citrus. They have a Japanese omelette for three with white truffle, caviar, and the usual sashimi and roll selections. For dessert it’s a yuzu cheesecake and they have a small but well chosen wine/sake/Champagne selection.

  • Mortimer House Kitchen

    Sunday sorted

What a good idea. Mortimer House are focusing on Sunday ‘feasts at home’ and feasts they are. Choose from the porchetta roast or meat lasagna for four. For vegetarians, their fresh smoked burrata with pistachios, wilted chard and pickled beetroot is about as good as you are going to get at home; delicious. For dessert, it’s Sicilian cannoli.

  • Tacos El Rey

    Indulge…

This one is for a bit of an indulgent party. From Kitchen Ventures and Breddos, this is a delivery only brand, but one with well-known restaurateurs behind it. Start with their nachos (we tried the cauliflower ones, which were an innovative change), then move on to one of their La Familia (4 pax) specials – beef barbacoa, pollo al pastor, or a whole cauliflower – and be sure to order a selection of tacos, too. For sides it’s corn in feta, crushed fried potatoes and guac.
