Playlist recommendations from the Convergence founder

In Conversation

Convergence returns for its fifth year this spring, with performances from Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kamaal Williams and Simian Mobile Disco. We caught up with founder Glenn Max.

What was the last exhibition you went to?

Hans Hartung at Perrotin Gallery in New York.

What are you listening to right now?

The intriguing Simian Mobile Disco collaboration with Deep Throat Choir, Visionist’s newest sonic exploration, and recent releases by Mr. Mitch, Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Thundercat, Nadine Shah, Ifriqiyya Electrique, and Algiers.

What's the best show you've been to recently?

The set that destroyed me was Grace Jones at Primavera Sound. And 2017 was a rich year for live music — where by contrast, album releases were less exciting. Live shows by Kate Tempest, Radiohead, John Cale, Alt-J, Fat White Family, Anderson Paak, Jupiter and Okwess International, Marc Ribot, Donny McCaslin, Peaches and Solange were all electrifying.

The most exciting places to hear music in London right now?

Village Underground and Cafe Oto.
