Now for a bit of LA. This regal, shiny Maybourne Hotel Group property – The Maybourne Beverly Hills – opened its doors last August. And as no one does the good life quite like this group, we can’t wait to take a closer look. Paula Fitzherbert, the grand doyenne of hospitality, gives us some Maybourne Beverly Hills highlights, as well as some of her favourite Cali things.
UJ: Favourite thing at The Maybourne Beverly Hills?
PF: Oh, the glamorous rooftop pool overlooking the quintessential views of Beverly Hills and beyond is the perfect chill spot – as is the al fresco Terrace restaurant overlooking Beverly Canon Gardens. Sitting there under the sparkly fairy lights is a true piece of LA magic.
UJ: Favourite restaurant in LA?
PF: I love Bestia in downtown LA – great Italian food scene in a lively setting; it ticks all the boxes. I also like Gjelina in Venice Beach – delicious and feels very neighbourhood… I love that part of town.
UJ: Favourite thing about LA?
PF: The heady mix of urban city, coupled with sea, beach and even mountains close by is pretty special. The light, the relaxed attitude, the food and of course the blue skies and spectator sunsets make it one of my favourite ever cities.
UJ: Favourite road trip from LA?
PF: We followed the well trodden route up to San Fran via Route 101 and it lived up to every expectation and beyond. From the dramatic scenery of Big Sur to the pitch perfect lunch at Post Ranch Inn to Elephant Seal beach to the quaintness of Carmel – every stop brought something special. It’s a must do at some point for everyone if possible.
UJ: Anything not to miss at The Maybourne Beverly Hills?
PF: The hotel is currently restoring some of its rooms and suites which are going to be pretty spectacular, particularly with views over LA – so watch out for some stylish unveiling soon. The Maybourne Beverly Hills also has one of the best spas in LA – it’s a perfect spot for some R&R and the best treatments.
UJ: Any news from the group to tell us?
PF: We’ve been very busy during lockdown! As well as opening our first hotel in LA, there will be more openings to come, so watch this space. We have also taken advantage of closure at Claridge’s to add some special new features, including a new swimming pool and spa to open this summer.
