Now, I'm usually not interested in running into famous faces (honest) but recently, Patrick Swayzee was on my flight, and I had to all but gag myself to stop from saying "nobody puts Baby in a corner". It was very exciting, even though he did look extremely haggard and was wearing bad boots. |

If I had spent my time wisely though, I probably should have tried to nick the plastic airplane mug he sipped from, instead of critiquing his attire, as I might have been able to flog it (to my mother at least), or have a show around it as the new exhibition CUPS has proved. CUPS is an exhibition about, literally, cups. Artists Dustin Ericksen and Mike Rogers have been collecting/pinching cups that have touched the lips of artists for years and on display are over 350 of their finds, including cups from the likes of Tracey Emin, Vanessa Beecroft and Barbara Kruger. The glasses haven't been washed, or altered in any way so, if you're lucky, you might even be able to see a bit of La Emin's dribble. Admittedly, Swayzee might not have made the grade (artiste??) and the 'what is contemporary art' question will undoubtably be tossed around again, but there's something I like about this exhibition. Maybe it's just the clepto in me. |
