Knitted love

It's every wedding planner's worst nightmare: 'I want a veil knitted by machines on wheels during the ceremony, so the train gets longer and longer as the day goes on'.

Such is the unique - and very odd - vision of Freddie Robins and Ben Coode-Adams and, at a time when knitting-as-fashion-statement has got just a little tired, their wedding plans remain pretty special. On October 9 the dress, cake, decorations, champagne, confetti and cameras will all be 100% wool in what promises to be the most surreal wedding event of the year. Beat that, Jordan.

The public are invited to join in the fun by visiting Battersea's Pump House
Gallery from tomorrow onwards and getting to work with the needles.

Participation gets you a wedding invite, and inclusion in upcoming book, How to Knit Your Own Wedding. As a way to meet like-minded individuals in a romantic setting, it could be a better bet than internet dating.

Drinks will be available, but guests are advised to bring their own picnic (knitted food just isn't that tasty). They may knit during the reception, or dance to the tunes of wedding DJ Nervous Stephen, who'll be spinning real vinyl.
