Going down

The death of the Routemaster has been a long and protracted demise, with more false alarms, and last-ditch life-saving attempts than your average season of ER.

But as of this Friday, one more member of that famous fleet will go to that great terminus in the sky. Yes, the Number 38 will soon make its way round its old route one last time and though by the weekend it will be gone, it will certainly not be forgotten.

Making sure of that fact are a number of 38 fans such as John Hegley (did you know he used to be a bus conductor?) and fellow poet/stand-up Luke Wright who used to travel to work on the bus daily.

On Sunday evening those two will be performing their special kind of transport eulogy at the Old Red Lion, St. John Street (on the 38's route, of course), alongside DJs playing "fabulous bus tunes" (we can only think of 'The Wheels on the Bus').

And if that's not sated your bus appetite why not take a look at some Routemaster photos or go the whole hog and buy yourself one from British Bus Sales.

All aboard!
