Out of the Blocks
Ready Set Go

Gym or pub? Gym or pub? The eternal question which stumps every Londoner at the end of the work day.

Let's be honest, the bottle usually wins out (okay, for me it wins every night) but if you are one of the healthy folk of this fine city - and, therefore, not my friend - you'll be interested to hear about a new routefinder service.

The site, linked with Google, allows joggers to plot and measure their route
within the city. (Measure? And here we thought the point was to just keep
running until you pass out.) Choose from an extensive listing of existing courses or plot the run yourself by clicking on landmarks. The site will then show you a detailed satellite view of the course, so you can see terrain or even how well lit a park is at night.

Unfortunately, the technology is not advanced enough to show the clearing where feral children will pelt you with small rocks. Or the street where strange men will holler inappropriate sexual propositions. Or the tree in Regent's Park where you'll puke up all of last night's tequila and red wine (winning combination, if I do say so myself) and lie down on the cool wet grass and promise yourself you will never, ever try something as stupid as jogging again.

Shame that. But the site does work for us wobbly people as well. Personally, I'm using it for research - North London potential outdoor make-out locations sorted.

Bring on the Spring.
