Steptoe and Son. Remember them? Well, they’re back again, but this time they're on stage rather than Sky. You may not be thrilled at the news, but it does make you think: what happens to all the stuff that get’s scrapped, especially from private maisons? |

One of the (legit) homes for such stuff is Lassco, the salvage yard with class. Based in a beautiful church in Shoreditch, here you'll find all those random bits you either can't find or are too scared to buy online. Think floorboard and fountains, brass letterboxes, and baths, as well as pricier finds like bust casts - from the V&A's archives no less - and an 18th Century pile of rubble (chimney remnants) worth 170K. (I know, at a salvage yard, who knew!!) But, as this is London's premier architectural antique shop, salvage finds are hardly your usual scrap heap affair. Antiques are from everywhere - entire contents of stately homes to only a doorknob from a dilapidated flat. So there may not be anything for Mr Steptoe here but, if you have taste, this could be your place. For a look around, at least.
