The mainstream gay scene these days is about as shocking and alternative as hearing Graham Norton say 'bum' on TV, while the chat-up lines at the bar are as likely to be about hedge funds as cute buns. |

But beyond the bland there's a thriving underground scene, exemplified by tonight's body-themed, performance-art-meets-club-night 'Act Art 4 - Memoirs of a Merkin'. Expect performance, film, and sounds that cover electro, trance & NRG anthems. So far so normal. But add in Oliver Frost and Marc Massive's performance which 'includes scarification and being reborn', and the scourge of the gay scene Yr Mum Ya Dad's new installation 'Pink Blood on Their Hands', which takes a swipe at the rampant capitalism in the gay scene. Then, you've got Nathan Evans' queer Punch & Judy show, a rare film about Leigh Bowery, and - the one I'm personally looking forward to most - Ryan Styles' new performance about Princess Diana, Lady Di-ed, and you have a unique event. The art bit starts at 7.30pm segueing neatly into the club night after 11pm. Homos & heteros welcome - squares can stay at home watching Graham titter.
