Breathe and Swallow
Eat Meat

Take a deep breath and Swallow.

We've all been there. Great interiors, fantastic cocktail list, central London location, all would be great except the clientele seem to have a combined IQ of a third division football team and about as much sartorial originality as Victoria Beckham.

That's what tends to happen when you venture into a bar on a main thoroughfare in the West End.

Which is why Swallow Street seems to work so well. Tucked just off Regent Street, and also home to the ever-popular Cuckoo, its newest addition is Volstead, a jewel of a boutique club from the Boujis boys that looks set to fully confirm Swallow Street's seat as home to the membership elite.

Jazz-age inspired cocktails are sipped from secluded hideaways or deep banquettes circling the central dance floor, from where the sexy, the sharp and the starry get down to old skool hip hop, house, rock and live bands. And did we mention the membership fee? Just £87, by invitation only and, with just a 150-person capacity, you'll want to get yours early.

And, if it follows the lead of sister club Boujis, you can also expect high falutin royal attendees, rock aristocracy and aspiring models being papped leaving for nights of passion with plastic surgery-laden veteran film stars. An affair that was always destined to be more two and a half hours than nine and a half weeks.

Swallow Street: the new Heddon Street.
