What's in a name? Well, it would seem, quite a lot. Positioning is everything these days. Now that designer concessions are 'concept stores', anything small is 'boutique' and the most sparkling outlets are christened 'flagship', to be called a mere shop, restaurant or bar must be the kiss of death. |

Word reaches us of Saki, probably the first Japanese restaurant to hit Smithfields (unless you count the Great Eastern's Miyabi, which is always very good). Saki isn't just a bar, restaurant and delicatessen but also a 'food boutique'. What the hell is a food boutique? I hear you moan. We can't answer that, for we've always been fond of the plain old term deli. What we can tell you, however, is that it's proving very popular. And with light, fresh Japanese food to takeaway you can keep your tastebuds and your summer figure happy at the same time. And don't forget to scoff out on moreish wasabi peas. I’m thinking of opening somewhere myself very soon. It'll sell clothes, books and food. I'm branding it a CELM. That's clothing emporium, libroteque and mangerie under one roof.
