Despite the plethora of trendy new 'members' clubs on the block (Eight, Play Room, Shed, High Road House), there's something to be said for the kind of established, old guard clubs which London does so well (Boodles, Whites, The Army & Navy), but which are bloody hard to crash without proper blue blood connections. |

Today offers a last chance to mix it (for less) with the diplomats, academics, and business types that make up the membership at The Royal Commonwealth Society's revamped Commonwealth Club, as the initial half price offer closes tonight (subject to the usual, ahem, vetting procedure). The new newly refurbed club blends tradition with 21st century design and features a suspended glass dining room, a members ONLY bar, and a restaurant with cuisine culled from the Commonwealth's 53 nations. Originally opened in 1868 the club has expanded into a three-floor fresh and airy building next door, designed by agency MoreySmith, and complete with wireless broadband and all the latest AV kit. Expect the conversation to get a little more rarified than the "canapes at Cannes" fare elsewhere. Well, you'd hope so anyway.
