Two pounds won't get you far in London. It doesn't even cover a pint - but at the end of a particularly fun-filled summer month, this meagre sum is all I've got in my wallet.

But will I be staying in this weekend and watching free Film Four? Not likely. a) I'm the only person in London without cable, and b) I'm taking my £2 to Clerkenwell Theatre on Exmouth Market where it will buy me a ticket to New Writing Sunday and cover wine and snacks too. Can it be true? New Writing Sunday is a platform for budding playwrights to show us what they're made of. Organised by Ten In a Bed Theatre Company the monthly showcase offers an eclectic mix of performances and play-readings, from comedy to murder-mysteries to skits. I would love to tell you who is on this Sunday, but it's a surprise. With the promise of two plays in two hours plus a free glass of wine and nibbles (probably some cheese crackers), it might be the best £2 bargain ever. But then my middle name is thrifty. Ok, no it's not - it's Jane.
