Most Londoners don't realise that finding a decent hotel in this city for less than two hundred quid is a nightmarish choice between a hovel in Kings Cross and some squalid flea pit in Earl's Court.

Which is why the news of the soon-to-open Hoxton Urban Lodge Hotel (HUL) should be greeted with joy. Whether you're sick of your overseas visitors smelling out your living room, or you simply get lucky in the puller's paradise that is Hoxton one evening, stick the address in your diary. And, if you move quick this morning, you can bag a night in a room for just one pound, as the hotel is offering five rooms every night between September 1 and October 31 for a single golden nugget. The Hoxton Urban Lodge is pitched firmly in the modern /minimal school of design with Frette bed linen, wi-fi, power showers, and duck down duvets, so it should meet the very exacting standards of UJ's subscribers. Which, for a quid, is not bad at all.
