Punk'd
Pin It

Imagine for a moment that the word 'punk' doesn't come associated with John Lydon making a fool of himself in the jungle, or a Ramones T-shirt hanging loose from a size-zero down Brick Lane.

What if 'punk' went back to its driven, anti-establishment roots? Far from asking you to stick a safety pin through your face, we wonder if you'd like to sample Soho's latest late night venue, Punk.

In a corner of town where private members clubs thrive on stuffy elitism, Punk promises a more casual, non-conformist type of fun that resists the funky house, R&B and 'eclectic beats' stereotypes. The décor is decadent, the entertainment 'mashed-up', and they'll even throw in some Sex Slaves (!) for good measure.

A permanent stage will see live bands and cabaret acts performing alongside London favourite club nights Antisocial, Tesco Disco and Nick House's Wonderland. You can also expect the venue to be used for art exhibitions and secret gigs (Bloc Party paid a pre-launch visit during fashion week).

Whether Punk lives up to its promising mission remains to be seen, but offering Urban Junkies readers free entry to tonight's opening party is certainly a good place to start. Just utter the words "sex slave" at the door, enjoy the free booze (6-8pm), and see for yourself.
