We are not going to bore you with claiming 'Brixton's on the ups!'. Heard that one before. Sure prices are going up, and it's now properly gentrified, but it's still in many ways, the same old Brixton. There have, however, been some new places popping up lately that are making this end-of-the-Victoria line hub a lot more fun to live in. |

First and foremost, there's the much-anticipated, long-awaited opening of DEX, Brixton's first members bar (we're not counting the tiny one above the dodgy Hope and Anchor on Acre Lane, although we hear good things). Tipped as being the new post-Academy hangout, DEX has two huge terraces, an outdoor hot tub, a bar that's open 24/7 and eight bedrooms, all with DEX (geddit?) for band members and groupies. And then there are the revamps. The local favourite Hive
has spruced up their top bar becoming less dance-party, more lounge
speakeasy; Plan
B's opened a new bar downstairs; Rosie's
Deli has added more seating and a coffee bar; and a vintage furniture
shop on Coldharbour Lane has been transformed into a hole-in-the-wall
retro juice bar, which oddly only sells cocktails. |

So all in all, good additions; for an area that's been crying out for them. Now if only BBG could loose their new atmosphere-crushing TV, then Brixton would really be sorted. DEX -
officially opens July 1 |
