I've always prided myself on being street smart. So when news came through this week, that I was duped by some fraudster on eBay, I was kicking myself. How did this happen to me? ('Cause I didn't read the instructions/am an eBay virgin.) |

But the email/Second Chance offer looked ligit? How did they get my email? (Seemingly easily.) It told me to do a 'secure' Western Union transfer as the seller's PayPal wasn't yet set up. (If I had read T&Cs, would have realised that eBay doesn't do Western Union transfers.) I was scammed, by someone who found out I lost the bid, and offered me a second chance, outside of eBay (I now realise). 'Stacey' from Milan, if you are reading this, lightening is going to strike you. Hope you're happy that my mother didn't get a 60th B-day present. Anyway, the good news is, this incident has curbed my eBay surfing
(for the time being) and moved me along to find the brilliant 'luxury
auctions' website Portero, which, at a first glance, looks at least
easier to manage. |

Portero is, in a sense, like eBay, but they cut to the chase, and only have 100% authentic, luxury things on offer; right now there's a Miu Miu clutch and a Montblanc pen, with my name on it. And from the T&Cs that I breezed over, it looks a lot more secure than dealing with a girl named Stacey. Portero.com
