Fulham Road is not one of my usual haunts. Nothing against you Sloanes... Well, who am I kidding? Posh people - and by this I mean those with triple-barreled names and crumbling family castles - make me uncomfortable. The Irish gobshite blood in me boils up and feels like torching something. |

There's been few reasons to visit such parts, and fewer now that Steinberg & Tolkien is closing shop on the 24th. Until today, that is. Working for UJ - and getting the amount of invitations we receive on a daily basis - you begin to believe that London's drinking establishments have little more than a month's shelf life. Every week, there are dozens of new bars and clubs opening and, so far this month, I've gone to exactly, hmm, zero of them. But the Valmont Club, opening tonight on Fulham Road, in Chelsea, did
catch our collective eye in the office. Maybe it's because it's on the
site of the historic Cafe des Artistes, one of the Stones' old haunts.
Maybe it's because they are "eschewing the hackeney VIP room mentality",
and unlike other establishments are trying to create an 'inclusive atmosphere'.
Maybe it's because they are clever enough to serve cocktail in bottles,
meaning there is no constant trek back and forth to the bar. |

Or maybe - just maybe - it's because I'm starting to warm to the idea of my future sons, Valentine and Vivien, going to Eton. I don't know. But I'm heading down tonight. On a school night. Amazing. The Valmont
Club - opens to public tomorrow |
