As the clocks go back and the days get ever shorter, proactive moodlifing is high on the agenda. Rather than traditional retail therapy (daily lap of Topshop anyone?) why not pick up a flower habit from one of the capital's new flower power houses. |

If you've tended towards the West End stalwarts like Wild at Heart or Paula Pryke (which are lovely), there are some next generation options to brighten up even the dullest day. First off the mark is the least minimalist Swedish store we've ever
seen - Flor Unikon, in Clerkenwell which is blonde wooded but with chandeliers
and patterned walls and brimming with casually elegant flowers. It joins
nearby florist The Black Tulip on Exmouth market which has the chicest
of lacquer interiors with exotic buds and chi chi accoutrements. Funnily
enough the key to both of these stores is excellent, unpretentious customer
service as well as the design sensibility. |

If all this sounds a little exhausting, head online to Arena Flowers for a quick hit. While its website isn't quite the antithesis of Interflora and the arrangements are less than cutting edge, the ethically sourced flowers should soothe your eco instincts with a quiet floral buzz. Flor
