The
Cool School: The Story of the Ferus Art Gallery
Most artistic scenes have their treasures: those
galleries or groups that define if not fully embody the zeitgeist.
Running from the mid '50s to the '60s, and associated with some
of the finest and most central names in the Beat scene, the
Ferus Art Gallery in LA was such a gem. Run variously by such
infamous figures as Walter Hopps, Irving Blum and Edward Kienholz,
this lively flick reveals the first gallery to devote a solo
show to the young Andy Warhol, the inimitable Ruschas, Hoppers
and Irwins who haunted its hallowed walls, and the mischief
                  that they got up to.
