Joël Robuchon’s Michelin stars could make up an entire constellation. His empire spans Tokyo, NY, Hong Kong and Paris, with his London outpost a seductive blend of Eastern elegance and French finesse. Most book a table at La Cuisine on the first floor, but UJ prefers the ground floor atelier, a sexy Japanese-inspired counter where you get a front row view of the kitchen behind. Plates are great for sharing – all come in large or tapas sized portions (go for the Colchester razor clams).

Head for a nightcap in Le Bar on the top floor, a cosy yet elegant space with a cocktail menu to match.
