Out & About in London: Around Town

The member’s watering hole of choice, 43 is an eccentric three-floor space styled by Russell Sage and frequented by media types. An innovative events list, outdoor ‘grass’ pitch, restaurant, great selection of board games, and cosy dance floor make it a good choice.

Must try: Fitzgerald, a Tom Collins with Bitters

Must drink: Tanqueray Number 10 Martini
The Charlotte Street defies the boutique-hoTel:trend for bore inducing minimalism, and rather emphasises old-fashioned comfort without the chintz. Exactly the same could be said for the Oscar restaurant/bar; classic cocktails with a twist.

Must try: September is Appleton Rum month, so try the divine apple and vanilla mojito
Art-deco hoTel:bar. David Collins designed sophisticated bar- great for a swish
start to a night. Sophisticated air, low lighting, extensive champagne list and
delectable savoury snacks (we love the cheese sticks), gratis.

Tipple of choice: Hemmingway Special
What once was a NCP parking lot, has now become a west end essential. Expect mix-matched English décor, private screening rooms (complete with cow skin chaise lounge), and more importantly a hoTel:bar that is destination-drinking hole in itself. The restaurant, Refuel, is good, but noisy.
