The owner of the delightful beach house restaurant El Chiringuito tells us about his Ibiza

Drawn to Ibiza by “the chance to live in a place that was full of amazing people”, Jonathan Thorogood moved to the island in 2004 where he met his wife and together they opened El Chiringuito, one of UJ’s favourite Ibiza beach house restaurants.

If you were to buy one thing in Ibiza to bring home, what would it be?
Hierbas!

Who is on your speed dial?
My wife, Olivia and George Lamb (godfather to our son).

Favourite club/night and why?
Monday’s in Amnesia with Cocoon and Sven & Fridays at Pacha with Pete Tong.

Most magical place on the island for you?
Es Cavallet beach with my son, Marley.

Favourite area to rent a villa in Ibiza and why? 
If I were to rent here, I’d choose Es Cubells. Great views, super quiet and close to everything.

Can’t live without…
My daily fix of the Gran Hotel spa.

Top sunset spot?
On a boat at Es Vedra.

Do you have a top Ibiza insider tip for our readers?
The new Pacha restaurant/lounge Lio.

Favourite dish at El Chiringuito?
Langoustine and zucchini risotto and our fish in salt to share for two.

Anything new at El Chiringuito that our readers should know about?
If you are six or more, ask for Table 12 when making your reservation. It’s a booth that has views of the whole restaurant with big, soft cushions.

Favourite restaurant?
It depends on the mood, so may I answer in the following way:

  1. Italian: Macao, Santa Gertrudis
  2. Formal: Ama Lur, Santa Gertrudis
  3. Day but not beach: La Paloma café , San Lorenzo
  4. Restaurant/Lounge: KM5 & Bambuddha Grove
