On the northern peninsular of the island you’ll find Juan y Andrea on Illetes beach. Opened in 1972, originally the lunch spot was nothing more than a fishing shack owned by Juan and Andrea and accessible only by boat. Now their three handsome sons have taken over and the shack has evolved into a topnotch destination restaurant enticing in, usually on their super yachts, both the rich and famous – yes, Leonardo, Naomi and Boris Becker have all eaten here. Most people still travel by water from Formentera and, trust us, the competition for who has the best boat is steep – choose carefully! The menu is pricey but the dishes are outstanding. We recommend the sea bass baked in salt and the decadent chocolate cake dessert!

Visit off season, when the turnover isn’t so speedy, for a lunch that goes on for hours.
