While I've been to the edge of reason several times recently, I haven't set foot in the Edge of Soho for years. And there is a reason for that. Obviously I'm talking about the bar on Soho Square rather than the geographical community, and said reason is that it has been stuck in the mid 90s since then and was well past its sell by date. |

Alas, it's a fate commonly experienced by many gay bars. They open with great fanfare and then seem to cling onto the same interior and clientele for dear life, while a host of new swankier haunts come out to steal the scene. Metaphorically and literally. Fortunately, bosses at the four-storey venue have finally realised that a re-launch was in order. This involves turning the rubbish piano bar al fresco, and adding a roof terrace, which is due to open in the New Year. Admittedly we could have done with that during the summer but hey, that's what outdoor paraffin heaters are for, and the rooftop space should give the regulars an impressive vantage point over the boys in the square. Which could persuade Soho's finest to go to the Edge and back, again.
