Chilled Out People
Chilled out people - tray by Alessi 1998

Right now calling King's Cross a village is a bit like calling Penge "an oasis of cool".

Yet as it undergoes massive redevelopment, The Big Chill's decision to open a venue there might just be a very canny business move.

The site on Pentonville Road has seen many bars come and go, but under the guidance of Big Chill founders Pete Lawrence and Katrina Larkin you can expect to see the establishment of a really warm and friendly sanctuary for those who love good music and seek an alternative to the life-sapping bar culture that dominates our capital.

With three floors of music, restaurant, a south facing sun terrace, eye-catching artwork, and plenty of nooks and crannies to get cosy in, The Big Chill House promises to be something special whilst capturing what makes the festival so popular (each area is lovingly named after familiar bits of The Big Chill's history).

The music line-up which includes The Memory Band and Tunng should put the 4am licence to good use, too. Unfortunately due to some flood damage the venue will not be opening this week as planned, but expect a queue for the launch night hosted by Disco Sucks (aka Bill Brewster and Paul Noble) on Friday 25 August.

It is indeed the perfect excuse to stay up all night whilst saying you spent the evening chilling out.

The Big Chill House - now opening Friday Aug 25. 257-259 Pentonville Road, N1 9NL - 020 7684 2020
