As NoHo and Mayfair continue to thrive, buzzing with restaurants, bars and cafes, since we can remember Fitzrovia has been in of a state of limbo. |

While Mash went out with hair gel and we've grown out of The Social, Annex Trois gave the area its camp-cool cred but the only place that ever really tickled our fancy was Firevault CVO - that random fireplace showroom that led down into a secret basement cafe/bar. For those of you who never discovered the place, sorry, it's now closed. But don't despair as Firevault's manager, and all-round visionaire, Matthieu Destandau has moved on to Vanilla which looks set to take up the mantle. Launching tonight, the restaurant and cocktail bar is an (almost) all-white, futuristic concoction that changes colour depending on the LED display (i.e., the mood the staff are in, hmmm). Part Clockwork Orange, part strip bar in Lost In Translation, Vanilla is the kind of place you find yourself floating out of in the early hours of the morning (it's far too glam a place to stumble out of). Posh chef Halim Harrache cooks up a decadent assortment of dishes like
langoustine, chorizo and provençal vegetable tarte fine and Earl
Grey and chocolate fondant, while the fabulously-named Xenios Voniatis
provides some top-rate cocktails. |

If you were looking for somewhere to grab a pizza to soak up a boozy night in Soho this ain't it, but it may be the hotspot to finally put Fitzrovia back on the map. Vanilla
