If you like to be surrounded by the dreamy environs of India’s past, Devi Garh offers one of the most spectacular properties in the country. An 18th century fort (once a Maharaja’s refuge) nestled in the Aravali Hills of Udaipur, it’s the last word in luxury, with more staff than guests and spectacular views. The main buildings are set in converted stables once inhabited by the Maharaja’s elephants (though we like the poolside spa cabana too), and offer Ayurvedic treatments (think purified bath milk and four-handed massages). You’re even encouraged to pick your own flowers and herbs to create super fresh remedies.
