So Korean and South American never really took off and, what with carbon calculators and the state of Britain's fisheries, sushi's a minefield. |

In the course of duty I stumbled upon Mimino. Tucked just off Kensington High Street, Mimino serves Georgian food (gastronomically Georgia was considered the Paris of the Soviet Union). The decor is unusual: "I designed it like my house", the owner told me. "This is my garden", he said, pointing to the green carpet and stuffed falcon on the wall (the bird from which this restaurant takes its name), "and this is my porch", throwing a nod toward the small white picket fence in the corner. It was among the most memorable London dining experiences
I had last year for many reasons. The chef used to work inhouse for
the Georgian Secretary of State and all I will say is that if you never
try Georgian in your life, you are doing your tastebuds a disservice. |

For anyone further seduced by the East and Central European vibe, there's also the lip-smackingly good Polish Wodka round the corner and the newly opened Archangel along the street. |
