Footwork

Like retail therapy and three bottles of wine, a good pedicure can solve almost anything.

Stressed at work? Lovelife down the drain? First date with a long-time crush? Book a pedi. Now.

There¹s something about the sheer extravagance of someone else sorting out your cracked heels, ragged toenails, worn out and - frankly - ugly feet that makes the world feel right again. And lads? We mean you, too.

So the question is: where to go? UJ has the rundown on five very different pedicure experiences:

Panakeia
44 Pimlico Road, SW1W 8LP, 020 7730 9977
What: The neighbourhood jewel
UJ Loves: The calm atmosphere, the high-precision painting, the proximity to The Daylesford Café. Need we say more?
USP: All pampering, no shortcuts
What they say: "Panakeia is dedicated to people's uniqueness and well-being, providing holistic treatments in a nourishing and comforting environment"
What we say: The chair could be every so slightly more comfortable, but really this is one hour of absolute heaven
Cost (standard): £35
Verdict: The best a girl can get

Classic Nails
26 Inverness Street NW1 7HJ - 020 7485 3054
What: The no-frills pedicure
UJ Loves: The no-talk and all-action attention given to our slovenly soles. A standard pedi equals about 30 mins of razoring, scrubbing and sloughing
USP: Cheap, cheap, cheap
What they say: Not a lot
What we say: A no-frills gig. The décor is zero, but the facilities are clean and the tools are new for each customer
Cost (standard): £20
Verdict: Risky Business - It's Camden Town people

Aveda
174 High Holborn, WC1 7AA
What: The brand-name one
UJ Loves: Just stepping in to Aveda makes us feel like we're getting ready for a night out
USP: Pamper your feet with the some of the best products in the world
What they say: "Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa is the premier location to fully experience the Aveda brand in its entirety."
What we say: Not exactly relaxing (the assembly line kind of threw us as did the pumping tunes) but certainly feels and looks good
Cost (standard): £30
Verdict: Great price and service

Refinery
3 London locations: Brook Street W1K, Knightsbridge SW1X, Bishopsgate EC2N
What: Let's hear it for the boys
UJ Loves: Upping the anti on male grooming? What's not to love?
USP: London's one-stop Grooming Emporium for men
What they say: "The average person takes 18,000 steps a day - The Refinery pedicure will leave your feet feeling refreshed and revitalised"
What we say: We're a bit jealous
Cost (executive): £60
Verdict: Is this the place to pull?

Vanity K Nail Bar at K West Hotel (is that a mouthful or what)
UJ loves: The fact that if you're stuck in Shepards Bush, there's something to do besides getting depressed by the scenery
USP: Spa for those who sleepover, nail bar being the new addition
What they say: A little bit of Bali, in the heart of Shepherd's Bush
What we say: The competence/friendliness of the staff here, makes up for the lack of character in the nail bar. No OPI, but they do have a good selection of colours.
Cost: £32, cheap!
Verdict: As they now have a weekend hotel offer, and the hotel is nice, this is a great getaway, if you feel like a trip down the central line.
