Bill Reid Gallery
The Haida are an indigenous nation of the Pacific North West, and their artists, of whom Bill Reid (1920-1998) was one, are some of the most acclaimed in the country. A man who mastered many disciplines - sculptor, goldsmith, carver - this eponymous gallery was built in 2008 to house his extensive personal collection and promote the awareness and appreciation of Northwest Coast First Nations art. A highlight here is the massive totem pole in the centre of the gallery; standing 6.7 meters high, the pole was created in memory of Bill Reid by a fellow Haida artist, James Hart. Don't miss his jade canoe sculpture at YVR airport- if you don't make it to his gallery, it's a great chance to see a piece.
