Vancouver Public Library
Shhhhh - it's a library. But this one is huge, was very expensive to build- $106 million to be exact- and has a bit of controversy surrounding it, with locals being very vocal about their support or disapproval of the building's design. Spearheaded by Moshe Safdie, who was given the commission by a public election, the building looks a little like the Coliseum. Love it or loathe it, it's worth a walk by, especially if you can't get over to Rome for this year's holidays. Have a look - even if you don't want a library card.
“I love Vancouver because of the sunsets over the mountains and the crazy architecture.”
